For this week’s musical offering I knew I wanted to include a couple of tracks by Martyn Bennett but when it came down to it, I just couldn’t pick 2 or 3. Sadly this wonderful musician died tragically young. It’s impossible not to listen to his music and yearn to know how he would have developed and progressed. Most of the tracks are taken from his album Grit, written when he was dying.
The first track, Karabach, is the only one not from Grit. I came across this tune on YouTube and tracked it down to an album called Ceol Tacsi. It is achingly beautiful and the unlikely combination of bagpipes and saxaphone works incredibly well.
Move is the first of Martyn Bennet’s music that I came across on YouTube. I love the energy of it, it really does make me want to move!
Other tracks that particularly stand out for me are Liberation and Ale House. I love the reading of the psalm at the start of Liberation. I am not religious but I do find it very moving, in addition the reading voice is wonderful. Ale House is completely different; it is quite cheeky and always makes me smile.
I shall let the rest speak for themselves, I am not really able to do them justice.
